World Briefing - Asia - Japan - Rampage Plans Online - Brief
In the hours before a 25-year-old man went on a rampage in central Tokyo on Sunday that left seven people dead, he posted a series of messages on an online bulletin board from his cellphone, the authorities said on Monday. The attacker, Tomohiro Kato, above, described his intention of using a vehicle and knife to kill people in the district of Akihabara. The first message to the thread was titled “I will kill people in Akihabara.” In later posts, Mr. Kato described leaving his home just west of Tokyo and worrying that rain might hamper his plans. The final post was at 12:10 p.m., and 20 minutes later he plowed a rental truck into a crowd of pedestrians before stabbing passers-by.
